As a kid I was determined to suck as much fun out of my summer days as possible. As an adult, the parameters of summer aren’t as clearly defined but the sentiments are still the same – have fun! For me, summer fun means spending as much time as possible soaking up the beautiful summer sun outdoors! Here are some of my favorites from this summer.
Recently developed photos from my Pentax K1000. I love the beauty and simplicity of black and white.
For the past six years, I have wintered in a perpetual state of snow.
Sometimes I feel like I live in a jungle gym. My pets constantly race and chase each other all over the house, the yard, and the basement. No matter what the obstacle, Butters is sure to find her way under, over, and around furniture, behind doors, around corners, under shelves, and inside closets. And Japhy is not far behind. She hates losing to him but unfortunately her size typically fails her. Plus he shoots over the couch and around the corners like a greyhound. Over the weekend I decided that this HAD to stop so I rearranged my living room to completely avoid animal acrobatics.
Want to see how the room turned out?
When I was a kid, my biggest fear was turning 10 years old. Double the digits and double the responsibility? No thank you! I’m fairly sure that pop culture was already pushing its way into my psyche to not so subtly remind me that growing up sucks. It was never about adding another digit to my age, it was about realizing that I would soon be departing my childhood. Unfortunately, I had to “grow up” a little earlier than I would have liked so peaking at age 10 actually seemed likely to me. Obviously, the days inevitably passed and my 10th birthday finally arrived. To take my mind off of my silly fears my mom planned the perfect party at a pottery shop and it was awesome. So awesome that I completely forgot why I had been so nervous of growing up in the first place.
Now, fifteen years later, I am still feeling the apprehension of aging but this time it’s not because I’m scared of growing up. I’m worried about not living my life to the fullest, so I decided to start with changing each and every day. All this to say that last weekend David and I decided to enjoy special days devoted to each other. Case in point: Terrific Lady Day!
It was perfect sweater and scarf weather last weekend and I couldn’t wait to soak it up with my best pal. The temperature was in the mid 50’s and the wind was January gusty but despite all of that the sun was shining so I put together an outfit that would keep me warm enough to spend the whole day outside but light enough to keep me cool in the warm sun. This meant a maroon silk shirt, a tan sweater, a beautiful silk scarf, and comfy walking shoes for a perfect afternoon out.
A new year means a new calendar! I never find a themed calendar that I enjoy so I typically don’t have one in my house. But I think being aware of each day’s date is important so for the first time I decided to design my own calendar!
Last Friday in my neck of the woods was beautiful, warm and 66 degress so I took advantage of the beautiful weather and threw on this cute outfit for a January walk. A couple of weeks ago, I paired this cardigan with a silk blue shirt and black jeans to create a casual work outfit. Its beautiful ivory color with lace embellishments perfectly dresses up any outfit. I actually wore this ensemble to work the other day and it was perfect. The office tends fluctuate in temperature so I light shirt paired with a warm cardigan powers through cold mornings and warn afternoons.
I am obsessed with taking photos with my Pop’s old Pentax K1000. Recently I developed some film from Fourth of July through the big move. I love the anticipation of seeing these photos once they’re developed and this bunch of photos did not disappoint. It managed to capture some fairly awesome moments.
My favorite part about holidays is celebrating the traditions that surround them. Halloween is of course one of those holidays. I love Halloween because it cues the middle of Fall, it’s gorgeous outside, dressing up in ridiculous costumes is socially acceptable, you’re allowed to knock an anyone’s door to demand candy, and it’s popular to cut up an orange fruit to house a lit candle. Throughout the years I have celebrated this holiday in style. I’ve had some pretty awesome costumes over the years…
