The Race to my First DSLR Camera

IMG_7636

Not surprisingly, my interest in photography has turned from mild to obsessed! Last May, when my dad gave me his old Pentax K1000, I couldn’t wait to learn all about photography. I immediately began researching how to use the old film camera including all the technical terms, the number’s, and the art of taking a decent photo. Now, several rolls of “practice” film later, my piqued interest has turned into love.

I’m A Film Camera Nerd

I am obsessed with taking photos with my Pop’s old Pentax K1000. Recently I developed some film from Fourth of July through the big move. I love the anticipation of seeing these photos once they’re developed and this bunch of photos did not disappoint. It managed to capture some fairly awesome moments.

Carefree Day

Sometimes, I force myself to drop all responsibilities in order to take the time to enjoy a carefree day. When I was a kid, carefree days happened almost everyday. I grew up on a non-working farm, 50 acres of never-ending exploration. My brother and I frequently spent our days searching for frogs in the ponds, climbing and jumping between hay bales in the fields, pretending to drive all the equipment in the barn, and playing with our pet sheep, donkeys, and cats. Yeah, we had odd pets. Now that I’ve grown to adulthood, I relish those carefree days. I rarely get the chance to wake up with nothing planned for the day. A day purely filled with exploration, relaxation, playtime, education, and much more. Last weekend, I had that day. I laid around in the morning, played in the backyard with my puppy, and then headed to the park with my best friends for an adventure!

How To Organize Your Photos Digitally

When I was asked to scan old family slides for a family friend recently, it got me thinking about how I have preserved my family photos. My mom did a great job of organizing and preserving photos from throughout my childhood in scrapbooks. She did the same for her parents photos which is exactly what I was hoping for when I set out on this project.

Stroer Wedding

I had the honor of being in the wedding for 2 of my college friends last weekend and it was a blast! I met the couple in college when my boyfriend joined the groom’s fraternity. The groom was his “big brother” and the bride soon became my “big sister.” They have been together for 12 years so family, friends, and the couple have been waiting for this day for a long time. Celebrating the union of these two was awesome. I can’t imagine 2 people more meant for each other.

Exploring at the Park

Your life is defined by a series of moments. Many of them are seemingly mundane. Sitting at your desk at work, driving your car, watching commercials… But the others. The others are amazing. Gazing at a flowing waterfall, climbing to the top of the hill to overlook a beautiful pond, watching majestic geese glide along the pond, the good feeling that comes from the smile of a dog….

A Simple Fix

A couple of months ago my Dad gave me his old camera equipment. A Pentax K1000, a Kiev 88, a light meter, filters, flash, extra lenses…. The one thing that wasn’t in his old camera bag? A camera strap. I didn’t really think it an issue until I realized that I am an active photographer. Most of my pictures are taken of moving objects while moving. I considered making a pretty one for fun but decided that I needed something sturdy rather than pretty. So I found a plain ‘ole strap on sale at Walmart last week – $4! The problem? It’s too thick for the tiny holes on the camera.

So I improvised.

My “New” Cameras

Hello all!

I visited my family this past weekend and borrowed my Dad’s old cameras. He was/is a great photographer. I remember him being behind this camera all the time when I was a little kid.

I am really interested in photography but don’t know all about it yet. Last weekend he taught me all about aperture, focus, lighting, shutter speed, ISO…..

I need a good photography book. I know that I could probably look it all up online but I’d rather thumb through a book. I love books.

The big guy on the right is a Kiev 88 made in Ukraine. I am definitely not ready to brave him yet.

The Pentax K1000 is calling my name though. I’m off to learn more!
