My favorite part about holidays is celebrating the traditions that surround them. Halloween is of course one of those holidays. I love Halloween because it cues the middle of Fall, it’s gorgeous outside, dressing up in ridiculous costumes is socially acceptable, you’re allowed to knock an anyone’s door to demand candy, and it’s popular to cut up an orange fruit to house a lit candle. Throughout the years I have celebrated this holiday in style. I’ve had some pretty awesome costumes over the years…
Check out the new “Daily Life” page above to see a roundup of all posts about Japhy, Butters, hiking, cooking, etc. It’s a great place to check out the behind the scenes here at DownShannonLane.
As you can see, Butters and Japhy are simply ecstatic about the new page.
Last weekend we packed up the car and headed toward my favorite place in the world thus far, my family river cabin. There is no internet, no phone reception, no traffic, no neighbors, and, especially, no worries. In place of all these annoying everyday distractions is quality time with friends, delicious food making, time to relax and read a book, compelling conversations, and, most importantly, wonderful memories in the making.
Last week I convinced David to go Antique Mall shopping with me. The trip was mostly unsuccessful ending with only one purchase and an idea in the back of my head. I purchased this old window for only $5!
I’ve had posters on my walls my whole life. When I was young I had “Cute Kitten” posters that said things like, “Hang in There” or “Smile Everyday.” In high school I decorated my room with photos of best friends, posters of my favorite bands, and keepsakes I had collected.
In college I managed to mesh my style with my roommate’s including art posters, band posters, pictures of friends, and collages.
Now that I have graduated, moved in with my boyfriend, and fully matured to an adult, at least I like to think I’m an adult now, I have cultivated a homey style of sorts. We still have a few posters here and there.
Getting mail is basically the best thing ever unless it’s junk that is. But when it’s from your best friend it’s awesome! (Well I guess my puppy got mail, not me.)
